In the late 1990’s, Sharon found herself intrigued with Oprah’s Book Club and the emergence of Terry McMillan, Pearl Cleage and other AA authors. This led her,
in August 1998, to combine her love of reading with a need to bring balance to her life as a wife, mother and full-time sales professional, to found The Reading Divas Book Club.
Belonging to this sisterhood has seen her through both good and bad times and eventually led to her post-retirement life as a literary event planner, book club consultant and published author. Her book, "Plan It! The Complete
Resource Guide for Authors, Book Clubs & Literary Event Planners”, was published by Brown Girls Books (BGB) in 2015.
In 2008, The Reading
Divas, led by Sharon, planned and hosted a Literary Brunch to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Four years later, in 2012,
after authors and readers expressed a desire for "more than a brunch", The Black Authors & Readers Rock Weekend - a two-day literary conference, replaced the brunch.
Sharon, who strongly believes literary events and book clubs are
vital links between the AA reader and writer, has served as the Event Planner for the all of these events.
Sharon and her husband and right hand, David, are retired and live in Bowie, MD.
